On August 11, Zelda Williams, daughter of the late Robin Williams, addressed a viral social media post that falsely claimed her father had a pet monkey. This response came on the 10th anniversary of Robin Williams’ death.
Zelda Williams Responds to False Post
The viral post, shared on X (formerly Twitter) on August 10, featured a photo of Robin Williams with a monkey on his shoulder. The post wrongly claimed this monkey was a pet of the actor and suggested that the photo was taken shortly before his death.
It’s been brought to my attention some probably AI written BS like this is going viral. Dad didn’t own a pet monkey, NO ONE should, and if you’re ever tempted to, support your local exotic animal rescues instead. That is his Night at the Museum costar, who now lives at one. https://t.co/VmYHD8dE34

Zelda Williams’ Clarification
Zelda Williams took to social media to refute these claims. In her response, she wrote:
“It’s been brought to my attention that some probably AI-written BS like this is going viral. Dad didn’t own a pet monkey, NO ONE should, and if you’re ever tempted to, support your local exotic animal rescues instead.”
She clarified that the monkey in the photo is actually Crystal, a capuchin monkey who starred in the Night at the Museum films alongside her father. Crystal now lives at an animal sanctuary.
Clarifying the Photo
Zelda also addressed confusion about the photo’s context. She mentioned:
“It’s a real picture of Dad, but it’s not the last picture taken of him.”
Remembering Robin Williams

Zelda’s Reflection on Her Father
In a recent post, Zelda expressed frustration with misinformation about her father, especially around the anniversary of his death. She advised her followers:
“Since more completely false or badly researched posts are likely to go viral on Dad’s death anniversary, maybe just assume they’re all BS (they usually are).”
Fond Memories
Back in December, Zelda shared her cherished memories of her father. She spoke about their family traditions, particularly during the holidays:
“Being together was the important thing, especially with our busy schedules. Cooking together was a big part of our family, and we would eat together every Tuesday, however many family members were in town.”
Conclusion
Zelda Williams continues to honor her father’s memory by addressing misinformation and celebrating their family traditions. Her recent response to the viral post highlights her commitment to protecting her father’s legacy and correcting false claims.
