Tennis racket! You need a tennis racket!” In a moment of frustration, Jarren Duran responded with a homophobic slur that was caught on the game telecast.
Duran was heard saying, “Shut up, you f—ing f—-t,” a comment that quickly sparked outrage.

Following the game, Jarren Duran expressed deep regret for his actions. In a statement released by the Red Sox, he said, “During tonight’s game, I used a truly horrific word when responding to a fan. I feel awful knowing how many people I offended and disappointed. I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly to the entire LGBTQ community. Our young fans are supposed to be able to look up to me as a role model, but tonight I fell far short of that responsibility.”
Duran also emphasized his commitment to learning from the incident, stating, “I will use this opportunity to educate myself and my teammates and to grow as a person.”

The Boston Red Sox quickly addressed the situation, issuing a statement of their own. “We echo Jarren Duran’s apology to our fans, especially to the LGBTQ community,” the team said. “We strive to be an organization that welcomes all fans to Fenway Park, and we will continue to educate our employees, players, coaches, and staff on the importance of inclusivity.”

Duran has been a key player for the Red Sox this season, batting .291 with 143 hits over 116 games. Last month, he was named the All-Star Game MVP after hitting a decisive home run, making him the fifth Red Sox player to earn that title.
